The SUBSTANTIALLY CATHOLIC summer seminar is an intensive five-day experience designed to strengthen the competence and comfort of faculty committed to engaging the Catholic intellectual tradition in their course work.

History
The importance of having such institutes emerged from an empirical study which forms the basis of the book Catholic Higher Education: A Culture in Crisis, published by Oxford University Press in 2006.
Last summer was the first SUBSTANTIALLY CATHOLIC seminar and it received outstanding reviews. Some photos of the inaugural group are posted under "past and future seminars".

Fees
The basic cost of the SUBSTANTIALLY CATHOLIC summer seminar, which includes the programmatic components, accommodations, and meals over the five days, is $2,500 for a single participant.  In most cases it is expected that the participant’s college or university will cover a substantial portion, if not all these costs.

Accommodations and Special Events
Participants will stay in an air-conditioned residence hall at St. Mary’s.  Spouses can stay in the residence halls for no extra charge. For an additional charge of $250 spouses can join the group in the evening for dinner and whatever group activity is planned.

Each day participants will have an opportunity to participate in the Eucharist at the St. Mary’s College chapel.

Group outings are planned on some afternoons and evenings.

Seminar activities begin on Sunday, June 14, and conclude at noon on Friday, June 19, midday, after the final presentation.
